We will be joined by a triple XL line up of DJ’s this month to celebrate DJ Matman’s birthday.
Confirmed guests so far include Jed 104 -fresh from supporting Snoop Dogg on his European tour, DJ Philly (BBP/Trackside Burners) & DJ Druskillz who was spinning alongside us at Soundwave Festival in Croatia last Friday night summer.
The Droppin’ Science crew have teamed up with legendary street brand 55DSL for the ultimate collabo night to be held on the 4th Saturday of every month at The Star of Bethnal Green, East London.
Due to the many requests, we decided to move the night from it’s original West London location, to bring the party to our native East London, at the fantastic Star of Bethnal Green pub.
We will be delivering a seamless blend of Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Disco, 80’s & Newjack plus a few surprises for the ultimate party vibe.
The first one…

“Kilowatt V2” is the second of three releases from Kilowatt Music’s producer series, and V2 sees Eric Lau bring the heat. Expect 2 vocal tracks, 2 interlude tracks and 2 intrumentals. Featuring Oddisee and Muhsinah, Eric continues to cement his role as one of the best soulful beat makers around at the moment. This is a great way to follow the stupidly dope New Territories LP, I can’t fault this one bit.
Snippets in the widget below, expect to see this in stores on 7 Inch and CD on March 1 2010.
The crazy cartoon charactor that is Sharon Jones and her group the mighty Dapkings (best known for their work with Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson)bless us again this year with their 4th long player. “I Learned the Hard Way” comes into stores on April 6 and damn it sounds good!
For a taste of what’s to come, Daptone Records have kindly provided the album’s title track for download.
More info:
Produced by Bosco Mann and recorded on an Ampex eight-track tape machine by Gabriel Roth in Daptone Records’ House of Soul studios, this record drips with a warmth and spontaneity rarely found since the golden days of Muscle Shoals and Stax. Sharon’s raw power, rhythmic swagger, moaning soulfulness, and melodic command set her firmly alongside Tina Turner, James Brown, Mavis Staples, and Aretha as a fixture in the canon of soul music. From the lushPhilly-Soul fanfare that ushers in “The Game Gets Old” at the top of the record, to the stripped down Sam Cooke-style“Mama Don’t Like My Man” at the tail, the Dap-Kings dance seamlessly through both the most crafted and simple arrangements with subtlety and discipline. I Learned the Hard Way is the “Daptone Sound” at its finest.
Last Wednesday 13/1/2010, the American legend of Soul and R&B Teddy Pendergrass died from Colon cancer at the young age of 59. Born Theodore DeReese Pendergrass on 26/3/1950 in Kingstree, South Carolina, Teddy was a musical legend whose career lasted for nearly 40 years. He started off as a drummer for The Cadillacs, later merged with Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes and then in the late 70’s launched his first solo album.
Teddy Pendergrass’ music has been sampled by many modern Hip Hop artists such as Little Brother, D’Angelo, Big Daddy Kane, Mobb Deep and has had a huge influence on R&B singers, most notably probably, Jaheim.
In memory of the legend, Roads-Art made a tribute track called ‘My Place’, which is basically a great instrumental sampling the timeless classic ‘Come Go With Me’.
