Droppin’ Science w/ Kidkanevil @ Vibe Bar – Saturday June 5th 2010

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

Posted by Matman

Droppin’ Science is back to rock the Vibe Bar on Saturday June 5th.

This time we’re joined on the turntables by First Word Record’s very own Kidkanevil.

A bit about KidKanevil…
Hailing from Tokyorkshire, DJ/Producer Kidkanevil first came to prominence with the release of his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Problems & Solutions’ back in 2007, and has since gone from strength to strength.

Now three albums deep, his latest LP ‘Basho Basho’ was released earlier this year to great critical acclaim! Check it out over at: http://kidkanevil.bandcamp.com/

KidK is fresh from a stint at this year’s Red Bull Music Academy and ready to unleash a barrage of new music and collaborations on the world. His unique productions & club-quaking DJ sets show influence of hip hop, dubstep, jungle & more!

“By far one of the UK’s most original producers.” – Hip Hop Connection

“5/5″ – DJ magazine

“Something truly memorable.” – URB

“Hip-hop genius.” – ATM

“A sonic visionary.” – iDJ

“Basho Basho deserves to put kidkanevil right up there with Flying Lotus.” – Knowledge Magazine

“Thunderous…a vivid display of dexterous beat construction and cultural experimentation. An incredible amount of character bubbles at the surface of evey track.” – okayplayer

“Sparse constellations of lethally-sharpened drum sounds flying around the listener act as a single structure of seemingly impossible strength.” – Wire Magazine

As always your Droppin’ Science heavyweight residents Matman, Nickname & Daredevil will also be on-hand to tear up the dance!

One of my favourite indie labels, Duck Down Music is celebrating its 15 Year Anniversary, by putting together a compilation… the twist is, fans of the label can help decide which tracks feature!

Founded in 1995 by Dru Ha & Buckshot, Duck Down Music has sold over 3 million records in its rich history.
The label, currently home to acts such as KRS-ONE & BUCKSHOT, 9th Wonder, B-Real of Cypress Hill, Sean Price, Kidz In The Hall, Skyzoo, Smif N Wessun, Heltah Skeltah, Boot Camp Clik, Marco Polo, Torae, Ruste Juxx, DJ Revolution, Team Facelift, Blue Scholars and more, is continuing to thrive in the Independent Hip-Hop scene.
To highlight the 15 year milestone, Duck Down is engaging YOU THE FAN, to help in deciding the final product for the commemorative album – 15 Years of Duck Down Music.
Fans can visit http://www.duckdown.com/15yearsofduckdownsurvey/

There, you’ll find a list of the top songs released through Duck Down, beginning in 1995 through 2010. Fans can vote for their favorite song from each year. The song with the most votes from each year will be highly recommended to be included in the final album track listing.

Voting will end June 1st.

On July 13th, just after INDEPENDENCE DAY, the collector’s item will be made available strictly as a physical CD. Fans can expect unique packaging in honor of this historic album.

NYC Heads… To celebrate the release, Duck Down is taking over BB KINGS in NYC (237 West 42nd Street) with a night of music featuring performances by:

Frank Nitt – ‘Go Girl’ [Official Video]

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Posted by Nickname

I’ve had this track on repeat since I first heard it, and I’ve finally got a minute to blog it!

‘Go Girl’ is the second single from Detroit’s very own Frank Nitt, taken from his forthcoming ‘Jewels In My Backpack’ EP, featuring Problem and produced by Terrace Martin.

Available to download on iTunes right now… keep you eye out for the EP due to drop on May 25.

Loving this video too, really works with the song and compliments Frank’s unique, laid back style. If you’re not too busy checking the ladies in this video, be sure to look out for a few familiar faces in there too!

Frank says: “The Go Girl record is a fun, sexy record that is really about strong, intelligent, uplifting and beautiful women,”.

Say no more!
