It’s not often you see a film in which the main character is a dj, one of my favourite hiphop-related movies Juice comes to mind, but that was way back in ‘92!
Everywhere & Nowhere is a new british film from ‘Kidulthood‘ director Menhaj Huda starring relative newcomer James Floyd. Before shooting the movie James did his research by hanging out with the Droppin’ Science crew, joining us on our podcast, taking notes at our night at vibe bar & getting a few dj lessons at our homes. We attended the premier this week & can report that he did a great job in the lead role, as did the rest of the excellent cast!
The verdict? an entertaining film with a dope soundtrack that deals with the pressures of a young British-Asian torn between his family traditions, his friends and his love for djing – we recommend you go check it out asap, it opens in cinemas this friday, check www.everywhereandnowheremovie.com to watch the trailer.
Droppin’ Science is back this May 7th & this time we’ve been granted a late license, so we’ll be rockin’ with you til 3am! Expect a block party style mix of hip-hop, funk & disco breaks & a few surprises. This time around residents Matman, Nickname & Daredevil will be joined by our special guest dj Chris Read (Music of Substance/BBE), who returns after smashing it for us back in April last year.
Chris, a collector of hip hop, funk, soul boogie and related beats and jazz based music since the late eighties came to prominence as a club DJ through his involvement in Substance (one of the UK’s largest and longest running hip hop and funk nights) and his 2 year spell as mix DJ on BBC Radio 1Xtra. In recent years his steady output of high profile mix albums has allowed Chris to DJ around the globe. However, it is Chris’s broad musical taste and knowledge and ability to throw the unexpected into the mis that have sealed his reputation as a popular club DJ. A resident at london’s popular clubnights Classic Material & So Much Soul, Chris has recently joined acclaimed record label BBE’s roster as a compiler & mix DJ.
Don’t sleep on East London’s liveliest Hip Hop party, every 1st saturday of the month.
This month dj’s Matman & Nickname take to the decks for over 2 hours of the finest ultra-fresh underground hip hop, along with a few rarities, obscure remixes & forgotten gems.

After killing it at Droppin’ Science with us back last June, were happy to welcome back First Word record’s Producer/Dj extraordinaire KidKanevil.
Hailing from Tokyorkshire, DJ/Producer Kidkanevil first came to prominence with the release of his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Problems & Solutions’ back in 2007, and has since gone from strength to strength. His lively dj sets often span many genres, from hip hop to reggae to dubstep to old school jungle/dnb, with plenty of lazers thrown in for good measure!
Now three albums deep, his latest LP ‘Basho Basho’ was released earlier last year to great critical acclaim, & followed up by a remixed version featuring some of the most talented producers out there today.
Kidk is also an integral part of the group ‘Stateless‘ who’s critically acclaimed album has just dropped on Ninja Tune records!
Earlier this year he also dropped a free 7-track EP titled ‘freebeeatsnbleeps’ – we recommend you go download that now if you haven’t already, get it at kidkanevil.bandcamp.com
“By far one of the UK’s most original producers.” – Hip Hop Connection
“5/5″ – DJ magazine
“Something truly memorable.” – URB
“Hip-hop genius.” – ATM
“A sonic visionary.” – iDJ
“Basho Basho deserves to put kidkanevil right up there with Flying Lotus.” – Knowledge Magazine
“Thunderous…a vivid display of dexterous beat construction and cultural experimentation. An incredible amount of character bubbles at the surface of evey track.” – okayplayer
“Sparse constellations of lethally-sharpened drum sounds flying around the listener act as a single structure of seemingly impossible strength.” – Wire Magazine
As always your Droppin’ Science heavyweight residents Matman, Nickname & Daredevil will also be on-hand to tear up the dance!
