This month at Droppin’ Science we welcome the return of special guest DJ/Producer Kidkanevil (first word records), & we also welcome back regular Droppin’ Science contributor & future funk master DJ Druskillz. Join them & residents Matman, Nickname & Daredevil at the Vibe Bar on bonfire night for yet another legendary night out.
Hailing from Tokyorkshire, DJ/Producer Kidkanevil first came to prominence with the release of his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Problems & Solutions’ back in 2007, and has since gone from strength to strength. His lively dj sets often span many genres, from hip hop to reggae to dubstep to old school jungle/dnb, with plenty of lazers thrown in for good measure!
Now three albums deep, his latest LP ‘Basho Basho’ was released earlier last year to great critical acclaim, & followed up by a remixed version featuring some of the most talented producers out there today.
Kidk is also an integral part of the group ‘Stateless‘ who’s critically acclaimed album has recently dropped on Ninja Tune records!
Earlier this year he also dropped a free 7-track EP titled ‘freebeatsnbleeps’ – we recommend you go download that now if you haven’t already, get it at kidkanevil.bandcamp.com

“Sparse constellations of lethally-sharpened drum sounds flying around the listener act as a single structure of seemingly impossible strength.” Wire Magazine
Put Me On It teamed up with Droppin’ Science regular and beat maker extraordinaire Kidkanevil, to make their first ever little film. Nicely put together, and a bit of insight into Jazz musician Raymond Scott.
Kidk has kindly offered his beat tape for free. A 27 strong work of art sampling the work of Raymond Scott. Preview below and download the lot from Bandcamp here.
We are extremely excited to announce that the Droppin’ Science Radio studio has moved and has found a new home at the Upper Playground store by Carnaby Street. This means that as well as being able to tune in live via Sensei.fm on the first Saturday of each month 4pm-6pm you can also come join the party live in store too!
First one kicks off this Saturday, in association with 31 Brand… come join us, and follow the party to Vibe Bar after where we welcome special guest DJ Swerve (Kiss100) back to the wheels of steel!
Belgium’s ZBS Studio reached out to Mello Music Group about permission to do a video for Oddisee’s “The Blooming”. MMG of course was honored to have them interpret the song and apply their vision to the track. The resulting marriage of visual storytelling & instrumental perfection is a narrative work that tells the story of time’s passage in the life of a boy. The video was directed, shot, & edited by Tomasz Cibulla and Wojciech Drożdż of ZBS Studios in Belgium.
Filled with rich landscapes from Belgium’s countryside, smokey ambers, old typewriters, watches, clocks, and a father and son, The Blooming portrays life’s unfolding through the metaphor of time. Oddisee’s original track was last springs soundtrack to the rains and blooming growth of nature. Rich strings, bold piano, wood block, synth, flute, and snares that rest easy in the backdrop drive this instrumental track from Odd Seasons.
Thanks to everyone that passed through Droppin’ Science for our late licence on Saturday night. The vibe was heavy all night long, big shout to everyone that partied ’til the bitter end!
Another killer party last weekend. Thanks to everyone that passed through and to this month’s guest Chris Read for a tight party set, and for ending with some jungle bangers!
We must apologise for the mix up with the late license, it was completely out of our hands. We had every reason to believe that we were open until 3am.
Below are a couple snaps from the night (thanks to Garf for the photos).
